Denali Cedar is the premier choice for exterior siding. It is available in prominent profiles used from coast to coast. It is universally agreed that Alaskan yellow cedar is the most suitable of cedars for outdoor use. It is highly decay resistant. It is exceptionally stable. The grain is smooth and splinter resistant. It will not bleed through stains or paints.

Plan ahead for the final look of your house siding. Bevel siding is traditionally painted. If you choose to paint, have your bevel pre-primed prior to delivery to your site. Remind your builder to dab primer on each fresh cut he/she makes during installation. Tongue-and-groove patterns are either painted or stained. Pre-prime for painting as recommended for bevel.
For all siding, rain screen construction is recommended. There are different methods to achieve a rain screen, but the end result is to establish an air gap between sheathing and siding to keep siding dry and the paint life extended.
Tongue-and-groove siding is blind-nailed. Drive nails evenly spaced through the tongue. Make sure nails are flush so the groove of the next course slides over the tongue. Make sure when fastening siding that nails penetrate into the sheathing and dimension lumber, i.e. the blocking or studs.
